Description
The
Space Odyssey,
American Harp Society, Inc. Edition, was proposed by David Day, curator for the AHS International Harp Archives at the Harold B. Lee Library of Brigham Young University. This edition has been compiled using five original sources from the Archives: two manuscript scores; two out of the four manuscript parts; and an LP recording performed by the New York Harp Ensemble under von Würtzler's direction. Special thanks to Harp Literature Chair Sonja Inglefield, chief editor, and her co-editors Mark Zabriskie and Camille Anderson, for bringing this edition to publication.
Mr. von Würtzler characterized the special effects included in the work "as wheels in a journey through the eras of the cosmos - a psychedelic sound picture within a framework of musical language." Read more of his original program notes and the story of putting together this edition in the
Preface to
Space Odyssey
